Drogheda Boys & Girls FC is proud to support the DDSL ‘It’s My Game’ Initiative, a campaign designed to empower young players and promote a more positive atmosphere in youth football.

As part of this initiative, we are participating in ‘Silent for All Weekend’ on March 28th-30th, 2025. This event encourages parents, coaches, and supporters to take a step back and allow players to express themselves, make decisions, and develop their skills without excessive sideline interference.

Why This Initiative Matters
Football should be an enjoyable experience where players learn, grow, and play with confidence. However, sideline pressure, over-coaching, and negativity can take away from that experience. The ‘It’s My Game’ initiative aims to shift the focus back to the players and ensure they have the best possible environment to develop.
  • For Players: Encourages independence, decision-making, and enjoyment of the game.
  • For Parents: A reminder that the best support comes from encouragement, not instructions.
  • For Coaches: Reinforces the importance of training and development while allowing players to apply their learning on matchdays.

How Drogheda Boys & Girls FC is Supporting the Campaign
Our club is fully committed to embracing this initiative and will implement the following measures to support its success:
  • ‘It’s Our Game’ Banner Walkout – Players will enter the pitch holding a banner to symbolize their ownership of the game.
  • Encouragement-Only Sidelines – Parents and supporters are encouraged to cheer and clap but refrain from coaching or shouting instructions.
  • Respect for Referees & Opponents – Teams will participate in pre- and post-match handshakes to promote sportsmanship.
  • Supportive Matchday Culture – Coaches, parents, and players will be reminded of the importance of a positive atmosphere.

Be Part of the Change
This initiative is about more than just one weekend—it’s about shaping the future of youth football. We encourage all parents, supporters, and players to embrace ‘It’s My Game’ and help create a lasting culture of respect, encouragement, and enjoyment in football.

Drogheda Boys & Girls FC is proud to be part of this movement. Let’s work together to ensure that football remains a game that young players love and thrive in.
