Just three months into their term, the new Drogheda Boys & Girls FC committee has made a powerful start, delivering structural improvements, strengthening community ties, and setting a bold course for the future. With a clear vision and tireless commitment, the new leadership is already reshaping the club from the ground up.

One of the most impactful decisions has been the streamlining of all teams into a single league structure, ensuring a consistent and aligned player development pathway from kindergarten to senior football—for both boys and girls. This long-overdue move has brought clarity and cohesion across all age groups.

To further professionalise football operations, the club has announced the appointment of Kian Maguire as Director of Football, who will take up the role in May. His focus will include coach support, player development, and a long-term footballing strategy as preparations for the 2025/26 season begin in earnest.

In parallel, the club proudly launched the “It’s My Game” initiative in partnership with the DDSL, promoting inclusivity, enjoyment, and player wellbeing across all age levels—a cornerstone of the club’s values.

The club recently launched its first-ever Mini World Cup, a landmark event open to young footballers across the wider Drogheda community. With teams representing different nations, colourful kits, and a vibrant atmosphere, the tournament created lifelong memories for players and families alike—cementing the club’s role at the heart of the town.

To support the club’s ambitions, a new fundraising committee has been formed, charged with building a strong and sustainable financial base. As part of this effort, the club has launched a comprehensive sponsorship package, inviting local businesses to support grassroots football. In return, the club is committed to promoting and partnering with local enterprises, reinforcing the idea that strong local sport and strong local business go hand in hand.

Already, the club has seen positive interest from businesses who value both the exposure and the opportunity to give back to the community.

On the infrastructure front, the committee has begun the process of securing a water connection at Marley’s Lane, paving the way for much-needed toilet and changing facilities. This crucial improvement will enhance the experience for every player, coach, and supporter on matchdays and training nights.

Additionally, the club has invested in a new lawnmower, ensuring playing surfaces are maintained to a high standard—an often-overlooked but vital part of providing a safe and enjoyable football environment.
