Drogheda Boys & Girls FC has welcomed the publication of the Football Association of Ireland’s new Strategic Plan, “It’s Time to Change the Game – FAI Strategy 2026–2029.”
As one of the largest grassroots clubs in the region, Drogheda Boys & Girls FC believes the strategy provides an important roadmap for the future of football in Ireland and recognises the critical role that community clubs play in growing the game.
The club particularly welcomes the FAI’s commitment to strengthening grassroots football through investment in facilities, increasing participation, and supporting clubs as community hubs.
The FAI strategy identifies facilities as one of the biggest barriers to football participation across the country and outlines a long-term plan to significantly increase investment in football infrastructure. For Drogheda Boys & Girls FC, this focus strongly aligns with the club’s own development plans to improve its facilities at Marley’s Lane in order to better support the growing number of players involved in the club.
Operating in a community with significant demand for sporting opportunities, the club has been actively progressing plans to upgrade its infrastructure to ensure that more boys and girls can participate in football in a safe, inclusive and well-supported environment.
The club also welcomes the strategy’s emphasis on increasing participation, particularly among young players and girls’ football. Drogheda Boys & Girls FC has experienced strong growth in recent years and remains committed to expanding opportunities for children and young people across the local community.
In addition, the FAI’s focus on developing inclusive community facilities and supporting grassroots clubs reflects the important role that clubs like Drogheda Boys & Girls FC play in providing positive sporting and social opportunities for young people.
